Ricci Business
28 January 2009
THE plot thickens at Nina Ricci; just weeks after it was rumoured that the label's parent company, Puig Fashion Group, may not renew creative director Olivier Theyskens' contract when it ends in October, Louis Vuitton designer Peter Copping is now reportedly in the frame to take the reins.
While no comment has been issued by any of the parties involved, WWD reports that Copping has already handed in his resignation at Vuitton - where he has worked for many years under the creative direction of Marc Jacobs - and that "tensions" between Theyskens and Ricci management could lead to an early severance of their partnership.
Theyskens has spearheaded Nina Ricci since 2007 and his ethereal collections are widely believed to have breathed new life into the historic house, regularly being worn by A-listers such as Reese Witherspoon and winning him darling status in the eyes of the press. By contrast, Copping enjoys a much lower profile in the industry; British born and a graduate of the Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins, he is an alumnus of Sonia Rykiel's studios and has spent a decade with Jacobs at Vuitton.
